POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Youth Engagement Program Director, and in accordance with the 
philosophy and mission of the Marshfield Area YMCA, the Summer Day Camp Counselor will 
provide enthusiasm and direction for the children in the Healthy Kids Day Camp program. They 
implement a variety of engaging activities and projects for the group in a safe and positive 
environment. Camp Counselors are responsible for ensuring the safety of participants while they 
are enrolled in day camp both on premise or during field trips. This position requires that camp 
counselors participate in activities with enrolled children rather than passively supervise children. 
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least 18 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of 
hire date.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
• Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic 
relationships with people from different backgrounds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Supervises the children during all activities while creating a positive environment for 
everyone. 
• Assists in program requirements which include: knowing whereabouts for all children 
enrolled, assist in applying sunscreen, provide water breaks, utilizing first aid when 
necessary, and recording all medical incidents.
• Has initiative and the ability to work independently, but has the capability to collaborate 
with other camp staff to provide activities during unplanned time frames. 
• Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, 
co-workers, Summer Day Camp Assistant Director and Youth Engagement Program 
Director. 
• Manage stressful situations in a positive manner.

• Recognize the needs and practice patience when working with children, as well as deal 
with issues in a nonjudgmental manner. 
• Maintains program site and equipment while teaching children how to be respectful of the 
YMCA’s program equipment and classroom environments.
• Maintains confidentiality of program participants.
• Attends and participates in required staff meetings and trainings.
