Description: To operate, monitor, maintain, and trouble-shoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes.

 

Pay: Dependent on experience and qualifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations governing the wastewater treatment process, storm water, and sludge management.
  • Perform the installation, maintenance, and repair of the physical plant and pump stations and all their components.
  • Perform daily checks of the wastewater treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations.
  • Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and machinery.
  • Conduct the necessary weekend checks of the treatment plant on a rotating basis.
  • Laboratory testing and data entry as needed.
  • Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
  • Maintain open communications with the Operator in Charge regarding the treatment process and pump stations operation and malfunction as, as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to the system.
  • Assist with general cleaning and housekeeping throughout the plant as needed.
  • Backfill to other positions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Be able to perform and document various tests required by State and Federal agencies for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Working knowledge of the operation, methods, and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct equipment malfunction.
  • Working knowledge of basic machinery, preventative maintenance, and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of State and Federal rules governing wastewater discharge and workers’ safety.
  • Able to work independently and make routine decisions on the operation of the plant processes and equipment during Operator in Charge absence.
  • Able to navigate and operate process equipment screens.

 

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understand English 
  • Have adequate experience in operating heavy machinery, preferably at a wastewater treatment facility.
  • Wastewater Operator Certification not required.
